Life before this mortal journey

We Are Children of God and We Lived With Him:
God, the Eternal Father, is literally the Father of our spirits; he is our Heavenly Father. He created us in His image from the intelligence (or spirit) that has existed from all eternity. God endowed each of us with our individual agency. During our premortal life we prepared ourselves for our earthly life.

God's Plan Was Presented:
Even though we were happy in our premortal life Our Father in Heaven knew that we would not be able to progress beyond a certain point unless we left His presence for a time. He knew we needed to be tested and learn to choose good over evil. He knew we needed to gain physical bodies to house our spirits. To help us accomplish these things he called us together in a Grand Council and presented His plan, the Plan of Salvation, also known as the Plan of Happiness, Plan of Redemption, and the Plan of Mercy.

"For I, the Lord God, created all things, of which I have spoken, spiritually, before they were naturally upon the face of the earth.... And I, the Lord God, had created all the children of men; and not yet a man to till the ground; for in heaven created I them" (Moses 3:5.)

I'm pretty sure it's not my first time to read about life before "this mortal life", but I guess it took a while before this really sunk in. This week I'd been reading a very old book I bought from Booksale. The title of this book is Horizons by Paul H. Dunn. In a chapter entitled "Distractions", I read once again about life before we were born. For me, it was a powerful chapter, a retelling of what can be found in the Bible, something we all should know. I would gladly share a link here when I find an e-book copy of it.

I like to think of life before this because it sort of gives me a feeling of having a purpose in this life. Yes, I have personal goals, things I want to achieve for me, my family, and friends. But above that, it's good to realize that that's not all there is. Everything we're going through in this mortal journey has a purpose, and it is to prove of our worth for the next life.

Perhaps this explains why, with some people we just met, it seems that we've known them for so long. Perhaps this is why some things that happen feels like it's meant to be. Perhaps before we came down here, we've had these same friends, and we were meant to meet once again to go through this lifetime with them. Perhaps when we have proved ourselves worthy, we will meet our Creator hand in hand.
